De-bushing continues in Ramotshere Moiloa Municipality.



Cutting trees, bushes and clearing the walk paths was the order of today where different stakeholders came in numbers and roll their sleeves to give a hand for saver communities objective.

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management through Directorate Crime Prevention and Partnerships coordinated the 'Letsema Project' on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design - (CPTED) at Motswedi village in Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality.

This Letsema was targeting crime hotspots related to environmental design.

According to the stats, the Motswedi Police Station is recording high number of robbery, rape and attempted murder cases on a daily basis. This crimes are taking place in different sections of a Motswedi where criminals hide and wait between high bushes and trees close to the walkway used by community members to pass from one section to another.

Community members in attendance of today's Letsema said crime is a nightmare in their area and they are concerned of their safety. Police and Community Poling Forums (CPF ) urged the community members to work together with them to make it possible for them to bring criminals to book.

The Department was working integrated with the community of Motswedi, stakeholders such as SAPS, Motswedi Community Police Forum (CPF), Department of Public Works, Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), Department of Forestry , Fisheries and Environment, Community Development Workers (CDW) and Ramotshere Local Municipality.

Letsema - De-bushing Project is taking place in all four districts of the Province.
